A hopeless itinerant and addicted birder based in Japan, I started photographing birds in this country as a simple means of checking their identity. This usually resulted in terrible photographs which I pulled out only to show visitors when it was time for them to leave (invariably speeding up the process).
With digital, I now marvel at the quality of images of live objects that evade the eye (we praise thee, oh, JapanCamera Inc), am filled with delight if mere intuition pays off, appreciate the critiquing that
takes place on this site, and am constantly inspired by the similarly afflicted amateurs AND the many competent maestros who share their photos and expertise here.
