I like the angle, I like the water, I like the clarity. As a beginner, I know how hard it is to pull together the idea of the shot, the focus, and the right crop. IMHO, you've done a really nice job. I'll leave it to the pros to give you
technical help; for me, it works.

Personally I would say none of the narrative in your description matches the image. Ignoring that the angle is less than inspiring and there is no light in the eyes.
Get down and closer to the water for a more interesting image, Could be 1TD or 1 TU.

Dear Yali. I'm going to give you 1 thumb because you measured light right, but I was thinking on just only half. You are talking a story of a child fishing to take dinner in Nicaragua, but I can only see a child looking the camera. This child could be from the States or from Europe or from other place of America and can be in a laggon or in a swimmingpool or whatever. The photography itself says nothing about the story you are telling. Thus, IMHO, this photos doesn't work very well. I think also you have lost a good opportunity to have the reflection of the eyes included in your photo. Thanks for sharing and cheers
