Hi John, wonderful composition making a 100 - 400 mm lens look like a very wide angle shot. That bird looks like it is about to land on you! That would be a 4TU - John Williams with a Pratincoles on his head :)

I think the big size capture againts many small works well, John, and colors are tastefull, good details too, maybe more space towards where the bird is going would be better?

Jacline

Hi, Jacline. Experimenting here, so much appreciate your thoughts. I usually leave space for birds to fly into, but I wanted this one to be leading the way as it were, so I'm not sure about the composition! Many thanks. John.

Nice one, John, the composite aspects are difficult to detect and the subject well positioned. Would have liked a bit more detail on the subject, the shadowing under the wings and head detracts a bit.

Hi, Michael. I know what you are saying about more detail on the subject, but the initial shot was underexposed (and not shot in RAW, unfortunately), so any more shadow lightening would have brought in too much noise, I'm afraid. Many thanks for taking a look. Regards, John.

Hi, Peter. The main close up was framed by a plain blue sky - not so interesting, but easy to mask and project onto the second shot taken from the same angle, which meant the light was coming from the same direction - that's vital. No software used! Thanks for stopping by. John.

Nice shot, John. I like the composition and moment captured. Those little bird silhouettes are really adding something special here. My only wish would be for better light conditions. ;-) Rgds, R.

That would have been helpful, Radim, but glad you think this experiment was worthwhile. Many thanks for your C&C. Best regards. John.

I would expect the key point bird could fly a bit more closer to the upper right corner yet overall composition is not bad. Still, the picture has a pale-looking feature for me. Heighten up slightly the contrast might be helpful.

Much appreciate your pointers, Pilot. I'll try boosting the contrast. Many thanks for your time. Best regards, John.

A very well done photo even it is composited, but I can aware that from the clouds and the other small birds in the sky that they are too sharp in compare with the main bird. Some noises detect on the under side of the bird, might have boosted a little too far in shadow/highlight tool.

Cheers......Edwin

Hi, Edwin. Yes, looks like I overdid it in the shadow/highlight area. Much appreciate your thoughts. Many thanks! John.

An interesting image, with the bird at an arresting angle. It's a great shot! Without knowing what the original frames were, or how much you cropped the image of the bird, you might want to revisit the original images. The layer with the clouds and the background birds has a little yellow in it and the blue is a bit muddy. You might want to play with the colour balance. The dark areas underneath the main bird appear a little noisy, the beak a little over-saturated. Thanks for sharing your creativity!

Hi, Vince. This is a bird I hadn't seen for years, so I was excited to see hundreds of them passing through this point. Appreciate your good eye on the colour cast and balance. Thanks for your input. Best regards. John.
