Hi John, wonderful composition making a 100 - 400 mm lens look like a very wide angle shot. That bird looks like it is about to land on you! That would be a 4TU - John Williams with a Pratincoles on his head :)

What is photoSIG?

photoSIG is a community of photographers and photography enthusiasts, ranging from amateurs to working professionals. photoSIG members may critique photos that have been submitted by other users and may also submit their own photos for review by the community.

What Can I Do Here?

If you're just starting out, then you might start by looking at the Tutorial, then proceed on to the Photos page to see the most recent photos submitted by photoSIG members. If you see a photo that you like, and you are a member, then you may enter a critique of the photo.

After you've seen the latest photos, you can try checking out the highest rated photos, or maybe the most controversial photos. You can also browse photos by subject category or by many other categories.

You can also stop by the Forums page, where you will find hundreds of messages from other photographers on various topics of interest.

Meet other photoSIG members!

photoSIG members around the world get together every month to meet each other in person and talk about photography or anything else. Meetups take place simultaneously in over 600 cities around the world. Visit the photoSIG Meetup page and RSVP for the next meetup near you!

November Assignment
from del/Administrator (0) on November 1, 2009 2:41:55 PM CST

And, another in a series of assignments suggested by members. This one comes from howards/Howard.

Contre jour is part of our second Scavenger Hunt. As suggested by Howard, this assignment also includes use of backlight and fill, rim light, backlight for balancing. In other words, use of backlight to go along with whatever else is in the photo or in use as lighting. We are not going to be dogmatic about a style or definition, just the use of light behind the subject.

To participate in this month's assignment, make a photo that has backlight in some form visible in it. And put the words "Backlit etc" in the photographer's comment . If you want to add anything, please do.

To qualify for this month's assignment,
  • Submit a photo that visibly shows some use of back light, and
  • be sure to include the words "Backlit etc" in your comment.
If you have a story to go with the photo that you want to share with us, put it in the comment area below the critiques.

If you have any questions, email an admin. If your photo is deemed to not meet our assignment criteria and hence removed, please accept our decision graciously. Our decisions are not subjects for debate, so if you are not sure, ask first. To enter your photo into the assignment, just check off the box that says 2009 11 ~ Backlit, contre jour, etc. You can view previous assignments here. You may submit as many photos as you like into the assignment. Good luck!

This assignment will be enabled on November 1 and run through November 30.
